Self cleaning glass for the bathroom
The so-called self-cleaning glass is glass on which an invisible layer of pyrolytic coating is applied on one side during production. Its purpose is to protect the surface of the glass and drastically slow down the aging process (corrosion) of the glass, which occurs continuously in contact with water and results in a slight peeling/hazing of the glass over time, which can often be seen on the surface of the glass of the shower cabins. Unlike products that are applied after the glass has already been manufactured, the glass we offer has a factory-applied pyrolytic coating, which means it lasts over time and you don't need to coat it with anything.
Did you know that since one of the main raw materials from which glass is made is sand, it contains sodium in large quantities. It is sodium that interacts with water and causes corrosion of the glass surface, resulting in fogging/whitening. By protecting the shower side of the glass, the pyrolytic coating reduces corrosion of the glass and the resulting accumulation of dirt particles and peeling.
The good news is that no additional treatment is required on the glass surface to maintain the self-cleaning glass coating. However, it is important to note that no matter how well one side of the glass is "polished" so that it does not retain particles and peel over time, it still requires standard cleaning, albeit over a much longer period of time. Cleaning is the same as for normal glass with the same preparations (of course, which do not contain abrasive particles).
How is "self-cleaning bathroom glass" tested?
Testing takes place in a climate-controlled room that, over 14 days, maintains humidity levels of 98% and temperatures varying between 25 and 45 degrees every half hour and from 45 to 55 degrees for one hour. This cycle is repeated 11 times within 24 hours.
